[25 Sep 2009|05:22pm]

I'm a high school senior who's been working on some social science research with the Intel Science Program for the past few months. I need to survey as many people as possible to take my survey, and would appreciate it if any of you did.

The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition is pleased to announce the release of its 2008 GENIUS Survey in partnership with Ernst & Young. GenderPAC works to ensure that classrooms, communities and workplaces are safe for everyone to learn, grow and succeed.

The Gender Equality National Index for Universities & Schools (GENIUS), GenderPAC’s most recent effort to end discrimination and promote awareness, encourages colleges and universities to recognize the benefits of a GenderSAFEtm campus - supportive equitable and protective for all students. Choosing to participate in GENUIS sends a strong public statement that bullying or discriminating based on the race, sex or gender of a student, faculty, or staff member is not tolerated at your institution

Fill out the survey at: www.gpac.org/GENIUS2008survey, and make sure that we have data for as many schools as possible. Your voice will help us continue to work towards a safe and welcoming environment for every student.

*While we greatly appreciate the interest taken in GENIUS by students, staff, and faculty at academic institutions outside of the United States, at this time GENIUS is only able to track schools based in the U.S.

Hey folks... been a while since there's been a posting, and I'm sorry to say it, but I'm making this post to be the bearer of bad news. This post would be of interest to LWHS alumni of around my vintage - at the school between 1999 and 2002.

Some of you may have known a young woman named Lily Waluconis. She was a brilliant young lady, very involved in band, Japanese and other academic things. Those who graduated in 2002 (or were at the ceremony) might remember her name coming up quite a bit for honors and awards. Some of you may also know my brother, bolddeciever (aka Hunter), who was her high school sweetheart and, more recently, fiancé.

Well, I am very sad to say that Lily passed away last week. I don't feel like going into the details publically (as my brother has only posted information friends-only), but suffice to say that we are all very, very saddened by this loss.

Some of her friends from Carleton College in Minnesota put together a community for posting memories of Lily. If any of you spent time with Lily in high school (or even earlier!), I'm sure everyone there would love to hear about it. The community is lily_w_memories. Please, if you knew her, let us know what you remember.

Thank you.

*sigh* [08 Jun 2005|10:51pm]

Tommorrow I have my first two finals. WHich means its going to be my last class for Period 1 -Photoshop and more importantly Period 2-Physics.

THe Final doesn't really scare me. I should be studying but I"m just can't keep my mind set on studying anything. THinkning about school is depressing.

I still don't understand whats going on with severson leaving? He never really gave us a clear reason for why he has to leave.
What happens to teachers after they've taught for 30 years? I don't get it.

SO today I wore my sister's LW lettermen's jacket to school. She graduated in the class of 1995. I can't beleive I"m here now graduating 10 years after her. TImes have defenitely changed, I remember going with her to drill-team practices in the early morning and and help gather up the super-huge pom poms they had. I suppose I was the official "Pom-Pom Boy"....Thats my most interesting job title so far and I was only 7 years old when I achieved it. I wonder what my life is gonna be like when I graduate.

Does anyone have any words of encouragement or advice for me when graduation and the idea of "stepping up to maturity" rolls around?

I'm actually kinda scared of moving on...however I'll probably stay in seattle for college then move out to california.

So apparently the TOLO theme for this year is Hollywood something. We have to dress like celebrities or just somehwhat famous ppl in general. I've never been to TOLO before, but since this is my last year at LW i figured I better try everything out atleast once, well except the Puple and White party. I really didn't want to go to that. But anyway I"m going to Tolo this year in a grouop of 4 guys. Thats right, we're all dateless but we'll still party it up and have a good time.

Oh today Dawson totally scarred this kid that was sleeping in his class. I have dawson 6th period and I walk to his class from Music theory and there was a kid sleeping there from 5th period. so we're all telling dawson not to wake him up and just let him sleep thru the rest of the school day, too bad Dawson didn't listen to us, it would have been funny if that kid woke up in the middle of 6th period with a whole different class around him.

Speaking of Dawson, I have a pic of him in his famous halloween costume. Sorry if u guys are gettin tired or annoyed of me posting these.

Nordmark moment [04 Feb 2005|03:59pm]

[ mood | nostalgic ]

Today, my professor for International Political Economy (Adam Resnick, and if you ever have to take International Relations at WWU get him, cause he's great) was talking about our upcoming midterm, and he referred to the stairway method (throw the pile of exams down a staircase and assign grades based on which step they fall on), and I remembered Nordmark's grading scale for the presentations... it was a nice little nostalgia moment ;)
